How to Write a Research Essay

Chances are you might have heard of a research paper but not of a research essay because you have never been asked to write one. But maybe now you are in a situation where you do need to write a research essay. Before we begin talking about how to write a research essay, let me tell you exactly what it is. A research essay is a piece of essay writing with an in-depth study of the subject.

If you want to write a good and interesting research essay, then you should ensure that you analyse and study the topic as critically as possible. The topics of research essay can be many but you need to focus on those which interest you the most. The truth is that you can really write a research essay on any topic just as long as you have researched the area. Remember that the only research essay that will be called good and top class will be that which has been prepared and managed with precision. To help you start off with writing your research essay, I have listed down a few things that are easy and simple to understand.

A. When you have decided on a topic, the first thing that you need to do is to ask yourself a question about the topic. The reason why you are going to be doing this is because this question (although you do not know the answer yet) will be your thesis statement. The topic you choose is general and you need to ask this question to give it direction so that your research essay doesn’t go all over the place.

B. The first word of the research essay is ‘research’ and so it is mandatory that you thoroughly research your topic. The most important thing in this kind of essay is the credibility of the facts and stats that you are using. Double check and make sure that your sources are reliable so that you have strong facts to include in the essay. The first place you should look for information are books, journals, articles and only in the end, the internet.

C. You have asked yourself the question, so all you have to do now is to turn it into a thesis statement and write it down so that the reader knows what you are going to be discussing.

D. Make extra sure that the introductory paragraph of the research essay is interesting so that it grabs on to the reader from the very beginning.

E. The body of the essay will include all the facts and findings that you have discovered while you were researching.
